MANY SEEK A PROPHET RATHER THAN THE LORD HIMSELF
12/13/15
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,”
when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21
I often wonder why many in the body of Christ can not hear clearly from the Lord about their
own lives and situations. Instead, some seek out a prophet so that they know what they should do.
And then when someone does give them clear wisdom from the Lord, then they continue to have more questions.
The Father himself does not give us a detailed road map of our future. But rather He provides us
with guidelines that are found in his word. He tells us that,
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck
them out of my hand. John 10
God wants ALL his children to be able to hear his voice and to know him more intimately.
It is true that God places different ministries among his body to help us grow and to come to maturity.
It is true that some are called to the office of a prophet, or an apostle, pastor, teacher, or evangelist.
But ALL have access to the Lord himself.
We don't need a priest to come to so that we may confess our sins, or to seek guidance spiritually.
We have the High Priest of Jesus who is always there ready to hear from us.
In fact we are ALL now called priests of the most high.
It is a big responsibility to hear correctly from the Lord, and to speak his words.
It can weigh on a person to make certain that those words are true.
This can be especially true if these words are for an individual.
Don't follow a person, no matter how spiritual or wise you may think that they are.
At some point you will quickly find out that they have many flaws themselves, and you will
become disappointed. Don't follow a pastor, prophet, or any other leader---they will always
disappoint you. Follow the One that they are following instead.
Instead, get on the track that they are running on. If your eyes and ears are truly open,
then you will see that ahead of them is the One that is in front. He has gone before us all.
He turns his head and smiles at all to beckon to follow after him. If you fall, then he will
lift you up again, and then you can return to the race again.
Others may have fallen by the wayside; even some of the leaders that you had once followed,
thinking that they had all the answers. And now you pass them on your course ahead.
We are all in this race, and not a single human being is the one to follow in this life.
There is only one Master.
And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known
I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level
ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them. Isaiah 42: 16
Amen,
